Classic Outfits Worn By Latinas To The Grammys

The 61st Annual Grammy  Awards will be taking place this Sunday, and you know what that means! Along with the myriad of show-stopping performances that will be conducted by our favorite artists, we’ll also be treated to a red carpet parade of dazzling fashion ensembles before the show. We couldn’t be more excited to catch a glimpse of our favorite Latina artists representing to all of the world the spectrum of culture that is Latinidad in all its expression.

This year, Latina nominees include Cardi B for her blockbuster album “Invasion of Privacy”, Camila Cabello for her live performance of “Havana”‘, and vocal powerhouses Christina Aguilera and Demi Lovato for their power-ballad duet, “Fall In Line”. We can’t wait to see what our favorite Latina artists will be wearing, as Latin music stars have never failed to deliver memorable outfits in the past! In celebration of the great fashion to come, we’ve compiled a list of 20 classic outfits worn by Latinas to The Grammys.

1. Jennifer Lopez in 2000

Of course, we’re obligated to start off this list with Jennifer Lopez’s timeless plunging green Versace dress that she wore to the Grammys in 2000. It’s arguably the most famous dress worn to the Grammys ever–let alone the most famous one worn by a Latina. The most incredible thing about this outfit is that she looks as incredible 19 years later as she did back then.

2. Mariah Carey in 1991

The 1991 Grammy Awards established Mariah Carey as a global phenomenon. Not only did she win two Grammys–one for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance and another for Best New Artist, she also wowed the audience by wearing a stunning black mini-dress with crystal straps.

3. Selena in 1994

Queen of Tejano music, Selena, wore a stunning white halter dress covered in crystals to the 1994 Grammys Ceremony. That wasn’t all that was memorable about that night, though–she also took home a Grammy Award for Best Mexican-American album.

4. Christina Aguilera in 2000

In 2000, Christina Aguilera won her first Grammy–the award being for Best New Artist. She turned heads by wearing a dazzling flapper-like slip dress that fell just below her knees.

5. Demi Lovato in 2017

Demi Lovato turned heads at the 2017 Grammys when she donned a plunging, armor-like gold dress that flaunted every curve of her famous figure.

6. Fergie in 2008

Fergie lit up the room at the 2008 Grammys by wearing a stunning canary yellow Calvin Kline dress that emphasized her bronze goddess aesthetic.

7. Selena Gomez in 2016

Selena Gomez proved to the world that she was no longer a child star when she arrived at the 2016 Grammys in a blue, sparkling Calvin Klein number that was the very definition of Old Hollywood glamour.

8. Shakira in 2000

The 2000 Grammys were a night dominated by Latin pop princesses. Not only was it the night of JLo’s memorable Versace dress and Xtina’s “Best New Artist” win, but it was the night Shakira won Best Latin Pop Album of the year. Who could forget her distressed hip-hugging dress that imitated gold leaf? Not us, that’s for sure.

9. Camila Cabello in 2018

Camila Cabello announced her transformation from girl band member to full-blown Pop Diva when she arrived at the 2018 Grammys in this Jessica Rabbit-inspired Vivienne Westwood creation. Her dress wasn’t the only thing to be impressed by–she was also nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album that year.

10. Cardi B in 2018

Cardi B cemented her status as a style icon by wearing an all white, a-line ensemble complete with tulle wings. The swan-like ensemble was designed by the talented Mohammed Ashi who claimed his idea for this dress’s creation came from his musings “about a girl who had always dreamt of going to the moon”. It couldn’t have been a more perfect fit for Cardi.

11. Christina Aguilera in 2004

Christina Aguilera continued her reputation as an edgy fashionista by attending the 2004 Grammys in a jazz age, Betty Boop-inspired getup. That night, she also took hoe the Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for her mega-smash single “Beautiful”.

12. Gloria Estefan In 2014

In 2014, Gloria Estefan proved to the world that age is just a number by arriving to the 56th Annual Grammy Awards in a sleek and sexy floor-length red dress designed by Gustavo Cadile.

13. Esperanza Spalding in 2011

Jazz musician of Puerto Rican descent, Esperanza Spalding, wore a swirling yellow outfit with geometric statement earrings to the Grammy Awards in 2011. She went on to be the surprise winner for Best New Artist.

14. Celia Cruz in 2003

Cuban salsa icon Celia Cruz further proved what a legend she is by arriving to the 42nd Annual Grammys decked out in an all-white ballgown with a matching fur shrug. Never one to under-accessorize, she completed her outfit with a massive crystal chandelier necklace. That, ladies, is how you do it.

15. Paulina Rubio in 2017

Mexican pop star Paulina Rubio, aka “The Latin Madonna” lived up to her sexy reputation and wore a black, semi-sheer dress adorned by intricate black lace to the 2017 Grammys.

16. Alessandra Ambrosio in 2016

Although she isn’t known for her musical talent, Brazilian supermodel Alessandra Ambrosio rocked the 2016 Grammy red carpet by wearing a dominatrix-like tight-fitting black dress with geometric cutouts.

17. Erin Lim in 2018

Mexican-American E! News reporter Erin Lim went for an edgy look for her first Grammy’s red carpet in 2018. Instead of going the traditional floor-length dress route, Lim opted for a chic, knee-length, caramel corduroy dress suit.

18. Gina Rodriguez in 2015

In 2015, back when Gina Rodriguez was still a fresh-faced newcomer, she dazzled Grammy viewers with her Grecian-inspired white dress with teal trimming.

19. Jennifer Lopez in 2011

JLo channeled disco-queen vibes at the 2011 Grammys by wearing a shiny silver Go-Go dress with matching accessories.

20. Demi Lovato in 2016

You didn’t think we’d stop at just one Demi Lovato look, did you? We couldn’t resist adding another Demi Lovato entry on this list, seeing as she’s slayed every Grammy’s red carpet she’s ever set foot on. In addition to her breathtaking 2017 look, she also made waves with her black suit dress ensemble that channeled Morticia Adams in all the right ways.

Cardi B To Make Feature Film Debut In Stripper Scam Movie ‘Hustlers’ Alongside J. Lo

Cardi B To Make Feature Film Debut In Stripper Scam Movie ‘Hustlers’ Alongside J. Lo

Cardi B has dominated the music charts with bangers that allude to her past life as a New York City stripper, and now the hip-hip star is ready to take over the big screen as a scammin’ dancer in the film “Hustlers.”

Deadline reports that the movie, set in New York during the 2008 financial crisis, is a tale of strippers who join together to swindle their Wall Street clients. Written and directed by Lorene Scafaria (The Meddler), “Hustlers” is based on a 2015 article by Jessica Pressler for New York Magazine titled “The Hustlers at Scores.”

The film will also star Jennifer Lopez, who Cardi worked with in 2018 on the hit “Dinero,” as well as Constance Wu (“Crazy Rich Asians”), Lili Reinhart (Riverdale), Keke Palmer (Scream Queens), Julia Stiles (“Silver Linings Playbook”) and Oscar-winner Mercedes Ruehl (“The Fisher King”).

Lopez is also producing the movie alongside STXfilms, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and Benny Medina, who collaborated previously on the 2018 rom-com “Second Act.”

While “Hustlers” will mark Cardi’s first major acting role, she isn’t new to the screen. The Bronx rapper appeared as herself on Love and Hip Hop: New York for two seasons, before her explosive music career, and made a guest appearance on Gabrielle Union’s BET series Being Mary Jane in 2017.

Shooting for the film will begin on March 22, 2019, and we’re all excited to see our fave Dominican-Trinidadian on the big screen.

Salty MLB Star Accused Arod of Cheating On JLo Days After Their Engagement, TBD If Anyone Cares

Salty MLB Star Accused Arod of Cheating On JLo Days After Their Engagement, TBD If Anyone Cares

Latina queen Jennifer Lopez and retired baseball superstar Alex Rodriguez recently became engaged--meaning that Latinidad has an official King and Queen to worship until the end of days. Needless to say, fans and followers alike have been flooding their respective Instagram pages with messages of congratulations and well-wishes.

For the two years that they’ve been dating, J-Lo and A-Rod have shared their lives with the public through their social media accounts, giving us a glimpse into the loving relationship that Lopez has called her “first ever good relationship”. Their Instagram profiles are sprinkled with pictures of them jet-setting, attending premieres and galas, and taking mixed-family vacations in exotic locales together. In other words, they’re very publicly living their best lives together.

However, a wrench was thrown into their happily-ever-after Sunday night when former MLB player Jose Canseco publicly accused A-Rod of cheating on Jennifer Lopez with his ex-wife, Jessica Canseco. In light of all this drama, we’ve compiled the definitive timeline of Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez’s relationship, all they way from friends to fiances. Take a look!

May 2005

Before the Puerto-Rican triple threat and the Dominican All-Star were Hollywood’s reigning It Couple, they were mere acquaintances. The pair first met in 2005 at a Yankees vs. Mets Baseball game. At the time, Rodriguez was married to his first wife, Cynthia Scurtis, while Lopez was still married to Marc Anthony.

February 2017

Lopez and Rodriguez reconnected twelve years later when they ran into each other at a restaurant. According to Lopez, they briefly said hello, but it was her who couldn’t resist continuing the conversations. “After [lunch] I went outside,” she said. “And for some reason I felt like tapping him on the shoulder”. He then asked her out to dinner via text.

March 2017

By March 2017, neither J-Lo nor A-Rod were trying to hide the fact that they were dating. During the month, they were spotted vacationing together in The Bahamas. ARod’s sister also posted a selfie of herself with JLo, captioning it #miscuñis, which means things were moving along pretty nicely.

When co-hosting “The View” at the end of March, Rodriguez had only great things to say about his new lady love: “She’s an amazing girl. We’re having a great time”. He also went on to say that J-Lo was “one of the smartest human beings I’ve ever met”. And he didn’t stop there! He showered on the compliments by calling her “an incredible mother” who “loves family”.

April 2017

By April, it was J-Lo’s turn to gush about her boo-thing on the talk-show circuit. While being grilled about her new boyfriend by Ellen (naturally), Lopez called Rodriguez “a great guy,” this 100% confirming their relationship.

May 2017

Never one to do things half-heartedly, Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez made their public debut as a couple at arguably the most prestigious event in the world: the Met Gala, of course. This occasion also marked J-Lo’s debut on A-Rod’s Instagram–and the first of many.

June 2017

By June 2017, it was obvious to the world that this couple was the real deal. Not only was Rodriguez gushing to the press that Jennifer was the ideal role model for his daughters, the pair was also taking glamorous European trips together and posting their adventures to their millions of followers on Instagram.

September 2017

We all know that one of the most crucial steps of a relationship is when your signficant other accompanies you to a work event. Lopez and Rodriguez crossed this milestone when A-Rod accompanied her to the premiere of “World of Dance”–a show she stars in and produces. It’s for reasons like this that A-Rod calls her “one of the most brilliant business minds that [he’s] ever met”!

November 2017

J-Lo and A-Rod took their relationship a step further when they spent Thanksgiving together in Rodriguez’s home. On Instagram, they shared with their followers that this was one of the many times they combined families for the holiday–further proof that they were very confident with where their relationship was.

December 2017

Along with the power couple’s magazine cover debut on the December issue of “Vanity Fair”, the duo also debuted their new (and catchy) portmanteau: J-Rod (we’re pretty sure they had it trademarked before they went public).

January 2018

Lopez and Rodriguez showed their Latinx pride by visiting Puerto Rico in January after Hurricane Maria devastated the island.

February 2018

In the March issue of Harper’s Bazaar, JLo got candid about her relationship with A-Rod and addressed the possibility of a wedding on the horizon. “I do believe in marriage,” she said. “And I would love to grow old with somebody in a committed relationship. But I’m not forcing anything right now. It’s good, it’s healthy; we communicate well…We have a similar makeup.” All signs point to yes!

May 7, 2018

JLo and A-Rod attended their second Met Gala as a couple in matching couture Balmain outfits, cementing their status as style icons.

July 2018

Lopez and Rodriguez spent her 49th birthday in one of their go-to vacation spots: The Bahamas. A-Rod took to Instagram to share a cute pic of their blended family on vacation along with a heartfelt tribute to his lady love. ” For someone who has been about giving everything she has 365 days a year—to our children, our families, the world,” he said. “I hope today, we can give you all the happiness you deserve. I love you mucho”.

August 2018

A-Rod’s reaction to JLo’s epic VMA’s performance last August became a viral sensation, as his pride over his girlfriend’s triple-threat skills were all too apparent. Twitter was full of women wanting a man who looks at them like ARod looks at JLo.

October 2018

A-Rod continued to support his girlfriend by attending events that were obviously important to her. In October, Rodriguez accompanied Lopez to Elle’s famous “Women in Hollywood” event. That night, he posted a supportive message to JLo on his Instagram: “With two young daughters and a woman I admire by my side, I know how important it is that we raise women up and teach our girls that there is no limit to what they can do.”

December 2018

According to their Instagram accounts, J-Rod spent New Years eve in Malibu, again with their blended family. Rodriguez’s caption read: “As the sun sets on 2018, from our family to yours … #HappyNewYear everyone!”.

February 2019

Lopez took her athlete-beau to the ultimate glamour event: The Oscars. The two shined in evening wear and Rodriguez was solidly by her side while she strutted the red carpet and presented awards.

March 2019

On March 9th, J-Rod announced that they were engaged with mutual Instagram posts sharing the news. The Instagram posts showed off the 15-carat emerald-cut diamond engagement ring, which is reported to be worth up to a cool $5 million.

March 10th, 2019

@JoseCanseco / Twitter

On Sunday night, former Major League Baseball player Jose Canseco accused A-Rod of cheating on J.Lo with his ex-wife, Jennifer Canseco. Before we get ahead of ourselves, it’s important to realize that Canseco has a history of making some pretty out-there statements (i.e. asking his Twitter followers to “spend the day with me and my alien Buddies”and insisting that he’s acquainted with “Bigfoot and a real alien”). In other words: there’s reason to doubt his word.

As of now, both JLo and ARod have remained silent in response to these explosive allegations, so there’s no way of knowing the veracity of the claims. Until then, all we can do is speculate and hope for the best!
