Recovery from any time of health ailment takes time and in some cases a lot of hard work. In the months following Demi Lovato’s life-threatening drug overdose back in July, the “Sorry Not Sorry” singer has been vigorous and thorough in her effort to focus on her sobriety. She disconnected from social platforms and soon after her hospitalization went straight into rehab. In the latest update on her health, according to a source within her inner circle, the former Disney Channel star will reportedly stay in rehab until the end of the year.

According to the source, Lovato has decided to remain in treatment until the end of the year.

According to a source that spoke with Entertainment Tonight, the 26-year-old Mexican-American singer and actress is “doing really well” after being hospitalized on July 24th for a drug overdose. After being released from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, the star entered rehab in August and recently completed 60 days in the program. Apparently more determined than ever to remain on track, the source told ET that Lovato plans to remain in the rehab facility until the end of the year in order to continue her recovery with a specialist who focuses on mental health and sobriety.

Earlier this year, things seemed to be doing much better for the singer.

Lovato had celebrated six years of sobriety in March of this year, but by June, she admitted to fans that she had relapsed with release of her music video for “Sober.” Soon after her hospitalization and entrance into rehab, Lovato posted a message on Instagram and received much love and support from fans.

“I have always been transparent about my journey with addiction,” Lovato wrote on August 5th. “I now need time to heal and focus on my sobriety and road to recovery. The love you have all shown me will never be forgotten and I look forward to the day where I can say I came out on the other side. I will keep fighting.”

Those close to the singer have done their best to update her fans on her recovery in recent weeks.

Earlier this month, Lovato’s little sister, Madison de la Garza, gave a positive update on how the star was doing in rehab. “She’s doing really well. She’s working really hard on her sobriety and we’re all so incredibly proud of her,”  De la Garza said during an interview with the “Millennial Hollywood” podcast. “We’ve been through a lot together, and every time [my family goes] through something, we always come out on the other side a hundred times stronger than before. We’ve just been so thankful for everything. For the little things.”

The outpour of love for Lovato and from her fans has also continued.

The star’s openness about her recovery journey and mental health has long been one of the reasons why we love her but her continued openness has hailed a new generation of admirers. Through her previous work as a mental health advocate and admitting to her abusive relationship with her father,

Lovato has broken barriers in Hollywood. Her frank talk about recovery and sobriety has been no different.

Thanks to stars like her, who are open about their mental illness and addiction issues, countless of others have been helped and found the courage to seek treatment.

Meanwhile, fans are still rallying around Lovato and supporting her through this journey.

Some have taken to Twitter to continue to remind the star how much they love her and how excited they are to see what is next for her.

As Lovato herself has said, “this illness is not something that disappears or fades with time.” Here’s wishing her continued recovery and health through the rest of 2018 and beyond.
