When it comes to sensational stage performances, Jennifer Lopez reins supreme. And the Puerto Rican queen didn’t disappoint Thursday night, when she debuted her provocative new single “El Anillo” at the 2018 Billboard Latin Music Awards at Las Vegas’ Mandalay Bay Events Centre.
With an ankle-length ponytail, a gold headdress and a sheer, nude bodysuit with shimmering accessories, the singer-actress-producer started her performance by emerging from a pink flower. But after that sweet entrance, it was straight sexy from the 48-year-old megastar.
From sensual choreography, a tantalizing Afro-Brazilian beat and sultry lyrics like, “Me tratas como una princesa y me das lo que pido. Tu tienes el bate y la fuerza que yo necesito” — which translates to “You treat me like a princess and give me what I ask. You have the bat and the strength I need” — J.Lo’s soon-to-be hit, which clearly alludes to her relationship with baseball star Alex Rodriguez, is a gift for all the infatuated mamis.
When Telemundo asked the Bronx-born beauty if the song, about a woman who comes through for her partner in every way and is demanding a ring, is about her Dominican beau, she giggled and insisted that it was an anthem.
“It is a message for all women to ask for what they deserve,” she said in Spanish.
This may be true, but with lyrics like, “You get a 13 out of 10 when we’re in bed,” knowing the former Yankees shortstop and third baseman’s number was 13, we have our speculations.
“El Anillo” is J.Lo’s first Spanish-language single of the year and her second release since she dropped “Us” in February. Catch the seductive golden performance above.
