Mariah Carey is debunking myths and telling some truths. Throughout the course of her three-decade career, the Latina of Afro-Venezuelan descent has been accused of having an over the top, diva-like reputation. Rumors about her “demanding” persona have mystified and enthralled fans for years. After all, each story, while pretty outlandish, seems to only certify her Mimi-ness.
In a recent interview with The Guardian, the R&B icon got real about the myths and rumors about her diva tendencies.
Queen Mimi set the record straight about her “diva-ishness” rumors.
Carey’s rumored diva behavior and tendency to make ridiculous demands is almost as famous as she is. Some say that she once demanded a mall to provide her with 20 white kittens and 100 white doves to accompany her for an event at their location. There’s one where she reportedly had a bedazzled sling made to treat her dislocated shoulder. And, of course, that French mineral water bath rumor. During her chat, Carey underlined that most of the rumors about her are mere myths. In the same vein as her notorious “I don’t know her” moment, Carey denied the kitten and doves gossip and shot down the myth that she requires every hotel she stays in to give her a new toilet seat (“I could just buy a house for that!”).
When it comes to that French mineral water rumor, however, Mimi admits that she does have a pretty bougie bath routine.
While she denies taking baths in French mineral water (“Well, I guess if there’s no clean water and I had to use mineral water, maybe I would”), Carey says her “me time” routine is even more regal than you might have imagined. Similar to Cleopatra and even Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld, Carey takes her baths in cold milk as part of her beauty regimen.
