The Golden Globes 2019 are just around the corner. While we sit here and prepare to root for Alfonso Cuarón’s Roma and see if Lin-Manuel Miranda will win for his turn in Mary Poppins Returns, let’s face it: What we’re really here for are the gorgeous gowns won on the red carpet. In honor of the Golden Globes of years past, we have put together a list of the 21 most beautiful dresses worn by Latinas at past Golden Globe awards shows.
From Jennifer Lopez’s incredible 2016 mustard yellow dress to Penelope Cruz’s 2007 not-even-remotely-simple black gown to Zoe Saldana’s 2010 stunner, here are the Latinas that made our Best Dressed list. In fact, let’s not call them “best dressed.” These Latinas are absolutely ICONIC.
1. Sofia Vergara, 2014

Sometimes, a black dress can be the biggest thing you’ll see on the red carpet — especially when it’s one as stunning as this one worn by Sofia Vergara in 2014. The strapless gown with a voluminous skirt is by Zac Posen and accessorized by a gorgeous turquoise statement necklace. Her simple cat eye and hot pink lip perfectly pull together the whole ensemble to make her a stand-out on the red carpet that year.
2. Jennifer Lopez, 2016

Leave it to Jenny from the Block to look like a million bucks on the red carpet pretty much 24/7. This elegant, caped bright yellow gown from Giambattista Valli is a complete stunner. But what might especially surprise you to learn (and what definitely set her apart this year) is that she also wore 200 carats of Harry Winston diamonds. Talk about the rocks that she’s got!
3. Eva Mendes, 2009

Who says that you can’t wear white after Labor Day? Eva Mendes shined in the color at the 2009 Golden Globe Awards. The actress wore a white silk Dior dress with a taffeta bustier that made her look like she was floating on a cloud all night. Though, to be honest, that bold necklace from Van Cleef & Arpels and silver patent Ferragamo clutch with geometrical pattern helped with the whole look, too.
4. Cameron Diaz, 2009

Mendes wasn’t the only Latina rocking the red carpet in 2009. Cameron Diaz looked oh-so-pretty in pink on the Golden Globes red carpet, donning a pink taffeta Chanel dress and a one-of-a-kind diamond Camelia dome ring and mini diamond hoop earrings. Really, her whole look was from Chanel since her jewelry was from Chanel Finale Jewelry and her clutch was Chanel. It seems that Diaz has a favorite brand this year.
5. Penelope Cruz, 2007

In yet another demonstration that a black dress doesn’t have to be boring, Penelope Cruz simply wowed at the 2007 Golden Globes red carpet in this frothy number from Chanel. All attention was on her gorgeous gown since the actress kept her hair, accessories, and makeup simple, but with such a stunner dress that’s definitely okay. She still makes our list of the most iconic dresses at the Golden Globes for this number.
6. America Ferrera, 2016

It seems that mustard yellow is definitely a color that works on us Latinas, since America Ferrera makes our list as the second celebrity to wear this color and look absolutely stunning (see JLo, above, in the same year). She looked like an absolute ray of sunshine in this elegant dress by Jenny Packham. That cleverly-placed keyhole, plus the accents made with glimmering Simon G jewels, make her stand out.
7. Gina Rodriguez, 2017

Talk about some sparkle! Gina Rodriguez looked like her most gorgeous self at the 2017 Golden Globes. Wearing a standout sparkly Naeem Khan halter gown (and Chopard jewels) landed her on many Best Dressed lists that year but, honestly, this dress deserves a place in history as one of the best worn at the Golden Globes, by anyone, ever. The actress herself even admitted that she should have stolen the dress because of how truly beautiful it was. We wouldn’t mind that…
8. Rosario Dawson, 2013

Powder blue is not a dress that you often see on red carpets but leave it to Rosario Dawson to pull off this daring, intricate and yet delicate look at the 2013 Golden Globes. The peplum shape of the gown accents her shape and looks absolutely amazing against her skin tone. The look was completed by her wearing sparkling Lorraine Schwarts jewels and, well, looking simply incredible while doing so.
9. Salma Hayek, 2012

Although Salma Hayek has a reputation for keeping it simple on the red carpet, she absolutely stunned the world in this gorgeous, sparkling and incredibly bold Gucci gown on the Golden Globes red carpet in 2012. Everything about her look, from her long waves to her chandelier earrings and simple clutch, helped pull it together to really put your focus on the dress. She kept her makeup simple.
10. Zoe Saldana, 2017

Zoe Saldana has made a name for herself lately for being a tough chick in movies, but that hasn’t stopped her from wowing us on the red carpet with her presence. At the 2017 Golden Globes, she wowed the world in this two-tone Gucci gown. From the ruffles to the bow, everything about this dress screams girly in the best way. The light pink and darker pink colors really make her stand out, while her simple hair and makeup put all of our eyes on that pretty dress.
11. Jessica Alba, 2013

If you’ve ever doubted your ability to wear orange or peach, then you just need to look at Jessica Alba’s 2013 Golden Globes dress to see how wrong you were. She simply stuns in this strapless Oscar de la Renta gown. The creamy texture of the fabric makes her look simply divine, though we are betting that her being decked out in a $5.8 million Harry Winston diamond necklace probably didn’t hurt, either.
12. Camila Alves, 2015

Camila Alves is someone who always looks gorgeous on the red carpet, though she’s technically only there to accompany her husband Matthew McConaughey and isn’t an actress herself. Still, her stunning 2015 Monique Lhuillier strapless column gown is so gorgeous that she definitely deserves a place on this list. The baby pink color definitely compliments her skin tone perfectly and we’re all here for it.
13. Eva Longoria, 2009

Red is always a good look on her and she knows it. At the 2009 Golden Globes, Eva Longoria looked pretty much perfect in a strapless Reem Acra gown. She really impressed everyone and it probably also had something to do with her accessories, the Verdura earrings and an H.Stern bracelet. Still, we’re mostly wondering why she doesn’t wear red basically 24/7.
14. Jennifer Lopez, 2004

You didn’t actually think that Jennifer Lopez would appear on our list only once, did you? Well, her 2004 stunner of a dress is well-deserving of a second spot. Her Golden Globes appearance was one that made her stand out thanks to the Grecian-style Michael Kors dress in a soft orange with gold accents. Although she doesn’t often wear bangs, they perfectly complemented this look.
15. Jessica Alba, 2012

Lavender might not seem like a typical color for the Golden Globes but Jessica Alba changed all of that in 2012. Donning a sparkly, detailed Gucci gown, Alba turned heads in her strapless ensemble. Knowing that the dress would be really what captured people, she kept her hair and makeup simple and even matched her purse to the dress. It’s definitely a look worth copying.
16. Sofia Vergara, 2017

Leave it to Sofia Vergara to really make us feel like the Golden Globes are about… gold. Her 2017 gown made by Zuhair Murad is definitely one for the record books. The long-sleeved, embroidered gown made her sparkle on the red carpet and everywhere else. And, of course, she’s never one to not be a little sexy, which is why the cut-out shoulders and cleavage look so good on her, too.
17. Gina Rodriguez, 2016
Although she’s a relative newcomer to the red carpet, Gina Rodriguez sure knows how to rock it. Her 2016 Golden Globes appearance definitely deserves a spot on the most iconic Latinas list thanks to her incredible navy gown that made her (and all of us) feel like a princess. The dress, made by Zac Posen, is absolutely lovely and well-deserving of all of the praise that it received on Best Dressed lists.
18. Zoe Saldana, 2010

You might have noticed Zoe Saldana’s cute Ferragamo clutch but what you’re probably really staring at is her stunning wine-colored Luis Vuitton gown at the 2010 Golden Globes. The actress complemented the look with a beautiful cat eye and simple pink lips and cheeks. Her cascading waved hair also looked great with the ruffles at the bottom of her own and made us all wish we could pull this off, too.
19. Eva Longoria, 2013
Wowza! We don’t often see legs on the red carpet at the Golden Globes but all of that changed with Eva Longoria’s 2013 dress. The Pucci gown once again reminded us why she was the sexiest Desperate Housewives star by far. Although the dress itself is a simple black, nothing about this dress is actually simple. From the leg-baring slit to the cleavage-loving cutout, Longoria is simply mesmerizing.
20. Jennifer Lopez, 2013

Jennifer Lopez is simply too beautiful to not include on this list one more time… And she clearly has an incredible taste since her dresses often land her on “Best Dressed” lists. This iconic number by Zuhair Murad, which she wore to the 2013 Golden Globes, definitely tops our list. It’s sheet and white and all kinds of sparkly. Her side-swept hair also needs to be noticed and, um, duplicated ASAP.
21. Mariah Carey, 2018
Leave it to our favorite diva Mariah Carey to look like a glam goddess on the red carpet at the Golden Globes 2018. Although most women wore black in support of the #TimesUp movement, Carey chose her own black dress with care. The Dolce & Gabbana mermaid-style number perfectly compliments her shape and her, ahem, best assets. The Chopard jewelry really helped to bring this whole outfit together.
