There’s a lot of things to look forward to in the new year, not the least of which is new videos we can all obsess over. Well, thankfully, 2019 has already brought us great joy in happiness in the form of an incredible tribute video made by a marching band in honor of the Queen of Tejano music, Selena Quintanilla.

Earlier this week, the University of Texas Longhorn Band (LHB) performed “Como La Flor” at this year’s Sugarbowl halftime show held at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans.

Although the video clip is only 48 seconds long, those 48 seconds have already seeped into our hearts and the hearts of Selena fans who have begun to rejoice on the internet after this video went viral yesterday. The video, which was originally posted on Twitter by journalist and photographer Sergio Chapa of The Houston Chronicle, shows the LHB and their dancers moving to one of Selena’s hits with the crowd behind them rejoicing.

The most thrilling part, though, may just be when the band spelled out Selena’s name in cursive writing in between all of those twirling flags and tooting horns.

Unsurprisingly, the video has now gone viral as more and more fans retweet and like the video since the @SelenaLaLeyenda official Twitter account reposted it. The account said that they are “proud” by the way that the LHB paid tribute to Selena. The LHB, which is otherwise known as the Showband of the Southwest, has 300 members that all contributed to the splendor during the Allstate Sugar Bowl in NOLA on January 1st, 2019.

“We liked the idea of taking a part of home with us and showing everyone what we are about,” said Scott Hanna, the Associate Director of Bands for UT’s LHB, in an interview with mySA.com. He also told the site that the members of the band learned to spell out “Selena” in just a day. Wowza!

Hanna also said that the decision to play Selena’s “Como La Flor,” along with a song by Carlos Santana, came after taking a poll asking students about their favorite shows of the season. Therefore, Tuesday’s performance was actually a repeat of one that was done during the season opener but this time on the national stage.

Since the video has become popular on Twitter, Selena’s fans are obsessing over watching it over and over — and who can really blame us for that?

To say that this video is magical might actually be an understatement, but one that we have to agree with. It’s magical. It’s fabulous. It’s incredible. It’s beautiful. It’s… totally going to make us cry, to be perfectly honest. Of course, when it comes to our love of Selena Quintanilla, is there any tribute that wouldn’t make us cry? (No. The answer is no.)

Of course, some fans chose to express their joy over this video with a classic GIF of Selena dancing. Duh.

The marching band definitely got our hips moving, so this seems like a wildly appropriate reaction.

Meanwhile, others used GIFs from the movie to express their love for this video.

We, too, would do anything for Selenas, which is why it is so nice to see a marching band perform to her songs on the national stage. It’s a lovely reminder to all of us that Selena will always be with us.

Others believe Selena herself was listening from up above.

This heartfelt sentiment goes out from all of her fans, like us and the LHB, who continue to play her music and pay tribute to the incredible Cumbia Queen.

“Bravo and Muchas Gracias” pretty much sums up how the internet feels about this latest Selena tribute.

Congratulations, indeed. It’s always a pleasure to see anyone honor one of our own but the fact that this is on such a grand scale makes it even better. BRAVO and MUCHAS GRACIAS, as they say.

Meanwhile, some of Selena’s fans have stated that they simply cannot stop watching the video. Obviously.

We cannot stop watching the video either. But would we want to? No, thanks.

Some have even reminded us that this isn’t the only Selena marching band show… but it’s definitely our new favorite.

It’s worth rewatching this 2017 performance by the University of Texas at San Antonio marching band. And then, of course, you can go back to the LHB performance once more. We wouldn’t be surprised if everyone who loves Selena is basically switching between watching this performance and re-watching the movie all weekend long. Then again, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that.
