“What’s the world if you can’t make it up the way you want it?”
Taken from Toni Morrison’s historical novel, “Jazz,“ this is the opening quote that sets the tone for CoverGirl’s latest video: “Made in the Mirror.” CoverGirl released this video with the hashtag #IAmWhatIMakeUp, which “celebrates the power of every individual to create who they are and who they want to be,” as stated by CoverGirl.
The video features Dominican fitness trainer Massy Arias, Professional Motorcycle Racer Shelina Moreda, actress and producer Issa Rae, along with the industrious Ayesha Curry, Maye Musk and Katy Perry. As the video takes you through a beautiful array of snapshots, featuring each woman’s unique beauty, you also hear the song “And I Like It” by Jefferson Airplane. The opening lyrics to this song are, “This is my life. I’m satisfied. So watch it. Don’t try to keep me tied,” which is exactly what CoverGirl is illustrating with the rebranding of their company.
So you can say goodbye to “Easy, Breezy, Beautiful” and hello to “I am what I make up.”
Massy Arias took her role as a new CoverGirl very personal and shared her thoughts and feelings about it on social media.
