Here’s Why People Are Getting Super Emotional Over This Father/Daughter Prom Tweet
Lourdes Medrano is one of millions of teenagers across the country who are in the middle of prom season. Medarno recently shared a photo of her and her father on Twitter — but it wasn’t the typical pre-prom photoshoot. Instead, Medrano’s photo was taken the day after her Everett Alvarez High School prom because her father had to work the night of her prom. She just wanted to give him a chance to get a photo with his daughter all dressed up. Medrano spoke with mitú about her photo, which went viral on Twitter. Here’s the story behind the tweet.
Lourdes Medrano wanted to give her father the prom pictures all parents look forward to, but there was a twist: they took the photos the day after prom.
My dad works so much & He didn't get to see me before prom yesterday,so I got ready again today since he was upset about no pictures pic.twitter.com/8aJFTJoa3u

“My dad works in tractors for Boutonnet Farms,” Medrano told mitú. “Since my dad is always helping out with my expenses, I just wanted to show him some appreciation back.”
The tweet featuring Medrano and her father has since received more than 52,000 retweets and more than 370,000 likes.
Courtesy of Lourdes Medrano“I honestly am still super shocked it has gotten to this point, it all basically happened over night,” Medrano told mitú about her tweet going viral. “Many people have actually shared touching stories with me about their dads or how my tweet made them think about their fathers who had passed, which was really touching to me.”
The tweet has really resonated with people all over Twitter.

People are touched by her gesture.

“My dad is very old school, making it hard for him to understand how social media works,” Medrano told mitú about her father’s reaction to his social media fame. “But I did try explaining to him what was happening and he is in disbelief.”
There were those who doubted how genuine and authentic her tweet was because her father wasn’t smiling.
@mermaidlulu_ @SameerNoSwag The face you make when your daughter says you can get "lots of retweets" if you make up a sentimental story to post to Twitter. pic.twitter.com/zJ36VuM7z5

“I would say that it’s not true at all,” Medrano told mitú about those who doubt the authenticity of her tweet. “All I did was post a moment I had with my dad and that’s it. I didn’t think of it as anything more. But after a couple hours many people started to connect with me which I believe is the main reason it has gone viral. There are many other people who have been in the same situation as me.”
People were quick to come to her side, Medrano told mitú. Especially people who know that some fathers are not the smiling type.
@mermaidlulu_ @PetrieTaughtMe @SameerNoSwag yeah i'm pretty sure dads just don't know how to smile tbh pic.twitter.com/OVKq85n1Ud

Not to mention that a Latino dad not smiling in a photo is not that ground breaking. Like, at all.
@mermaidlulu_ old school parents DO NOT like to smile for the camera lol I swear they're happy tho pic.twitter.com/hqpXGOHzXp
