Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Faces Increased Violence For Being A Progressive Young Woman Of Color With Power
Republicans are obsessed with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY). The latest proof: Yet another conservative has taken a disturbing photo of the congressional freshman.
The latest creepy image is of the Bronx politico dining with her chief of staff Saikat Chakrabarti, with the photographer zooming in on his plate. Why are meals now scandalous? Because Chakrabarti was eating a burger, a food choice the paparazzo thought was hypocritical considering Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal proposal.
Earlier this month, Ocasio-Cortez sat down with Desus & Mero, discussing her resolution on climate change with the hosts. “It’s not to say you get rid of agriculture. It’s not to say we’re gonna force everybody to go vegan or anything crazy like that,” she said. “But it’s to say, ‘Listen, we gotta address factory farming. Maybe we shouldn’t be eating a hamburger for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.”
In her remarks, Ocasio-Cortez addressed the facts: consuming less meat is good for the environment. That’s because 60 percent of agriculture’s massive and harmful greenhouse gas emissions come from meat and dairy, so limiting consumption could also help decrease dangerous CO2 gasses from entering the atmosphere.
While there’s still no knowing if the burger Chakrabarti had for dinner was beef, veggie, black bean, quinoa, or whatever, his meal remains hardly “hypocritical,” as the congresswoman, who wasn’t eating meat, suggested decreasing consumption, specifically saying that she was not asking everyone to be vegans.
But that’s not enough for her conservative stalkers, who have in the past taken snapshots of her backside to make classist statements and have fixated on everything from her clothes, nickname and dance skills to her childhood home, high school and inexpressive face.
Ocasio-Cortez addressed the GOP’s strange obsession with her on Twitter, responding to a conservative journalist who shared the photo on the social network.
“When you’re a guy that’s so unaware of his own creepiness that you tweet this from your own account as if it’s normal and not stalkerish at all,” she wrote to One America News host Jack Posobiec.
When he responded saying that he was “making fun of the people stalking” her, she told him how sharing the image, regardless of the context, isn’t OK because it is: 1) not funny, 2) stakeout photographers have tried to take pictures of her in her home and she was recently the target of a killing plot and 3) the post remains creepy, regardless.
Last week, a white nationalist Coast Guard Lieutenant was arrested for a terrorist plot that aimed to kill the representative and New York Senator Chuck Schumer.
Creepy, nonsensical photos, like the recent hamburger shot, only normalizes the threatening behaviors that Ocasio-Cortez is increasingly experiencing for being a vocal, progressive young woman of color with power.
