Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is the 28-year-old who made history last month when she unseated Democratic Rep. Joe Crowley in a New York congressional primary. She ran her platform on calls for universal Medicare and the abolishment of ICE. Now, after a massive win, she has the potential to make history yet again. A win for her in November would make her the youngest woman ever elected to Congress and likely contribute to bold and progressive new future for the people in her district. Beyond arresting the attention of voters across the country through her mission and age, Ocasio-Cortez has also captivated and inspired those looking at her personal journey. But her fans aren’t just getting inspired by her work and personal stories of success, as of late, the Puerto-Rican politician’s signature look is also getting people to their feet.
Last month, after Ocasio-Cortez wore her familiar red lipstick during a debate, her Twitter followers had questions.
I have been getting many inquiries about my debate lip color in the last two days.
I GOT YOU.

Ocasio-Cortez has been sporting a bright red lipstick color throughout the trail of her campaign and the interviews that took place after her win. Her fans were quick to notice how the color never seemed to smear or fade and it didn’t take look for them to ask her to share what brand she was wearing. Fortunately, she was quick to respond. According to her, the color she relies on the most comes courtesy of Stila and their “Stay All Day” Liquid lipstick color Beso. “I have been getting many inquiries about my debate lip color in the last two days. I GOT YOU,” she wrote.

Within days of posting the lipstick brand, fans began to report that the various sites like Sephora and Ulta had sold out of the $22 product which has long been a favorite of makeup users.
The lipstick currently has a 4.2. 5-star review on Sephora and over nearly 2,000 5-star reviews. One review of the product said called it “amazing” and highlighted its “High pigmentation, long wearing, non-drying, nice texture To me the description is a little too modest, this stuff stayed on my lips for over 7hours. 7 hours full of talking, smiling, drinking and some snacking. Not even a single crack.”
Since dropping the name of her lipstick, fans of Ocasio-Cortez have pointed out how powerful the color is.
This weekend we just got endorsed by NATIONAL DSA! Post-rally cheesin’ with my 🌹 pin on. Thank you @demsocialists for your solidarity and support. This round of national endorsements ALL went to women of color candidates across the country (including BK hermana @salazarforsenate!) – how about that? 💃🏿💃🏾💃🏽 . photo by my cuzo 📸: @jaeelect
Red lipstick has a long and celebrated history of operating as a symbol of rebellion and power for feminists. Suffragettes of the early 20th century took to the streets of New York and fought for the vote while wearing the bold color and women who supported the war effort of World War II also wore red lipstick. In fact, the infamous image of Rosie the Riveter features her sporting brawny arms and a bold AF red lip. Of course, it makes sense that a strong Latina like Ocasio-Cortez would use this color as her go-to since she’s dedicated her campaign and efforts to the good fight for equality for all.
