A border patrol agent fatally shot an undocumented immigrant in Texas on Wednesday.

According to the US Customs and Border Protection agency, a Border Patrol officer, whose name has not been released, was “responding to a report of illegal activity” in the town of Rio Bravo, which edges Mexico, when a group of migrants allegedly attacked the agent with “blunt objects.”

The officer fired his weapon, shooting the woman, who has not been identified, in the head. He performed CPR until paramedics arrived, but the migrant died on the scene from her injuries.

A video shot by bystander Marta Martinez, who disputes the agent’s claim that the woman, or anyone she was with, was armed, shows officers screaming “see what happens? See what you caused?” to the migrants, who were all later detained.

In the clip, which Martinez posted on Facebook, she is heard questioning the need for the agent’s excessive force.

“Why are you mistreating them? Why are you mistreating them? Why did you (shoot) at the girl? You killed her. He killed the girl. She’s laying there and she’s dead,” Martinez said.

The incident follows two other nefarious events from the agency, including an ACLU report alleging a series of horrific instances of child abuse and neglect as well as the detainment of two U.S. citizens who were speaking Spanish, in one week.

The news also comes as Republicans argue that Border Patrol agents face greater risks on the job, though data shows Border Patrol officers are assaulted at less than half the rate of other law enforcement officers and that assaults have been dropping, not rising.

The FBI and Texas Rangers are reportedly investigating Wednesday’s fatal shooting.
